When a family acquires a new puppy, it is an exciting and busy time. Puppies are fun and a bit of work too! Just like an infant, puppies require constant supervision so they won’t get themselves into mischief. It can be hard to adjust the your daily routine to meet the puppy’s needs. Often owners do not have the time or skills it takes to teach their puppy proper housebreaking habits, socialization and training boundaries. However, these habits are critical to helping your puppy grow into a well-adjusted, happy dog.

Puppy Head Start
A.K.C. S.T.A.R. Puppy Class
The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The six week class covers house training, handling exercises, socialization, basic commands and more. Class also includes 2 days of daycare to socialize puppies with other puppies in a controlled/supervised environment.
At the end of the course your instructor will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test. Upon passing the test you will receive an application to send to AKC to record the title STAR on your dog's official record at AKC.

Class Length: 6, 45-minute classes (meets weekly unless stated otherwise)

Orientation: The first AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy class will be a mandatory orientation session. This session is held without puppies.

Prerequisite: puppies must be 8-20 weeks on the first day of class. Puppies are also required to have at least one round of vaccinations at least 7 days before the first class. All vaccines must be documented by a veterinarian

*2 days of daycare must be used within the 6 week period of class

Puppy Head Start
Puppy Head Start combines daycare and dog training to help your puppy get a jumpstart on training and socialization.

Simply drop off your puppy off between 7-9am and pick them up between 4-6pm for a predetermined number of days. We give you, the owner, the educational material, and the encouragement that you need to continue the same routine at home.
Any questions and concerns that you have are resolved on a daily basis.

What does Puppy Head Start include?
Training
Included in the Puppy Head Start program is five days of one-on-one training with one of our trainers while your puppy is at day care. These training days are spread out over a 2-week period.
At the end of each week, you will receive a puppy-trainer lesson to offer you guidance with your puppy and show you what your puppy has learned.
Lessons will include sit, down, coming when called and walking on a leash. We will enforce polite greetings and appropriate human-dog interactions.
Once your puppy has been through five days of training, you will be entered into the next group Basic Manners class for additional training in a group environment.

Socialization
During the day, puppies will receive plenty of dog to dog interactions and play with other puppies as well as appropriate adult dogs. As with any preschool, structured naptimes and a regular feeding schedule will be provided. Crate training will also be provided.​
