Agility Classes
Introduction to Agility
During this class your dog will be introduced to the sport of dog agility and all the agility obstacles. Positive reinforcement techniques will be used to build your dog’s confidence and control.

Dogs and handlers will be introduced to the following agility equipment:

Run over low jumps, including the agility tire

Go through a tunnel
-
Walk over a reduced height A-Frame
-
Walk over a dog walk
-
Lean a reduced height teeter
-
Learn the basics of weave pole training
-
Run to and lay down on a pause table

Class Length: 45-minute classes for 4 weeks

Prerequisite: Attended formal group obedience classes. Proficient in sit-stay, down-stay and coming when called in the presence of other dogs is preferred or instructor approval.

Beginning Agility
Agility is a fast and fun sport with the focus on teamwork, communication and FUN! This is a great class to help your dog burn off energy or to help you compete one day. The class focus will be on obedience cues and positions as it relates to agility. Dogs and handlers will continue to shape their training of the agility obstacles and to learn basic handling skills. Emphasis will be on safety and having fun. Dogs and handlers will learn turning/directional cues and be introduced to coursework.

Prerequisite: Completion of Introduction to Agility or have a basic understanding of all agility equipment (instructor approval) and be proficient in sit-stay, down-stay and coming when called in the presence of other dogs.

Agility 1, Continuing
Class will enhance the skills from Beginning Agility. Handlers and dogs will learn how to work together through obstacles with focus, drive and independence. Introduction of the three crosses – front, rear and blind and training will emphasize proper timing and execution of each. Class can be repeated until the necessary skills are learned to proceed to Agility 2.

Agility 2, Continuing
Class will enhance the skills from Agility 1. Handlers and dogs will build on previous skills through full agility courses. Courses typically have between 14-20 obstacles, which can include tunnel, A-frame, dog walk, weave poles, tire jump, teeter, and pause table. Courses will incorporate these obstacles to allow the teams to build the tools needed to maneuver successfully. Skills covered include how to read the handler’s body language, lines and verbal turning cueing through each course.

Trick Dog Class
During the 1920’s to the 1940’s trick dogs, Rin Tin Tin and Lassie won people’s hearts. Trick dog training has become an exciting area in dog training for both dogs and handlers. Trick Dog Class will allow you to have fun with your dog and reinforce the bond you have with each other. You will have the opportunity to earn an AKC Trick Dog Title at the end of the five-week class, the class fee includes the test.

Intro to Dog Sports Class
So, your dog needs a job! It is hard to know what you and your dog would like unless you try it. Our 4-week Intro to Dog Sports Class exposes you and your dog to the world of dog competition.

Class #1 – Canine Good Citizen: This prep class will introduce you to the 10 exercises that make up the CGC test.
Class #2 - K9 Nose Work: Discover how much fun scent work can be for your dog and wear him out! Great for shy or fearful dogs.
Class #3 – AKC Tricks: Have fun with your dog and learn about the AKC Trick Dog.
Class # 4 - Agility: Learn a bit about the sport and introduce your dog to some of the standard agility equipment.
